Buy Clean Task Force

Are You Aware of the “Buy Clean” Task Force?

In February 2022, the Biden Administration created the Buy Clean Task Force.

Goals of the Program:

· Reduce industrial sector greenhouse gas emissions.

· Encourage the use of environmentally friendly construction materials in Federal buildings.

· Spend $9.5 billion to develop clean hydrogen. Clean hydrogen is known as a zero-carbon alternative; the objective is to use it as an alternative to natural gas.

· Cut industrial carbon emissions by 65% by 2030.

Background:

The industrial sector produces one-third of the greenhouse gases created in the United States.

Industrial emissions will become the most significant source of climate pollution in the U.S. by this decade.

Notably:

The new task force and its goals have gained bipartisan support.

My Take:

The Buy Clean task force is a significant step forward in combatting climate change.

Because the U.S. is the biggest purchaser of goods and services in the world, it will encourage more companies to produce environmentally safe building products.

It is one more example of how we can’t make things perfect, but we can make them better.
