European Countries Rush To Green Energy

Tagline: “Let’s now dash into renewables at lightning speed.”

Key Facts: The European Union is planning a new energy plan to “scale up renewable energy in Europe by mobilizing additional investments, removing roadblocks to renewables roll-out, and empowering consumers to play an active role in the energy market.”

Game Plan. The strategy aims to cut EU dependency on Russian gas by two-thirds this year and end reliance on Russian gas supplies before 2030. Plus, it includes fast-tracked solar energy and renewable hydrogen deployment, the quick implementation of far-reaching energy-efficiency measures, and the production of thirty-five billion cubic meters of biogas (energy from renewable sources) per year by 2030.

Key Quote: “Today, climate and energy security policies are one. It’s a huge chance for Europe to make good on its climate goals finally,”

My Take: Until now, there has not been the political will in Europe and other world areas to clearly make a move toward clean energy. The Ukraine war has changed everything. Now, everyone is getting on board. It may not be easy. It may take longer than predicted. But long-term, this is one of the best outcomes from this tragic war.
