The first thing that you need to be aware of is that you should not be using the shampoo mix directly in the tank. This would mean that you would be rinsing your carpet with shampoo which would lead to rapid resoiling. Instead of this, obtain a small pump up sprayer and mix your shampoo solution in it. Then, apply the solution to the carpet and allow it to dwell before rinsing it with the machine. In the machine, use just plain water, possible adding a few ounces of white vinegar to deodorize
